Pharyngitis is an infectious throat infection generally caused by viruses or bacteria. The disease is commonly seen in winter. The disease can be acute or chronical. The normal pharyngitis is known as acute pharyngitis. If the disease is very commonly seen and the symptoms are not very clear, the disease is described as chronical.
Acute Pharyngitis Symptoms
The most common symptoms of the disease are redness and swelling in the throat, swelling in the body, and nasal discharge. However, the final diagnosis should be made by the doctor.
Current Practices of Pharyngitis
Before starting the pharyngitis treatment, first of all, throat culture is taken to determine whether the disease is microbic or viral. The use of antibiotics is important in the treatment of the disease if it is caused by bacteria. However, antibiotics is not effective on viruses. In viral pharyngitis, the healing of the disease can be fasten by anti-inflammatory agents, pain relievers, allergy inhibitors and cough suppressants.
Chronic Pharyngitis Treatment
Treatment of chronic pharyngitis is very difficult and long lasting. Hence, the reason of the disease should be known for an effective treatment. The disease can not usually be completely removed, but by supplying the good conditions and by use of supportive drugs, the symptoms can be minimalized. It should be known that use of pastilles is useless.
Acute Pharangitis Treatment
Different methods can be applied to cure acute pharyngitis. Antibiotics are not necessary when the disease is thought to be caused by acute pharyngitis viruses. However, antibiotics shorten the healing period of the disease, since the frequent infections of viruses can also accelerate bacteria multiplication. In addition to antibiotics, pain reliever-antipyretics, antihistamines, nasal decongestants, cough cutters and mouthwashes can be used in patients with allergies. The herbal treatment is also suggested.
